According to Cancer Research UK, 2013, every year over 50,000 men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate, testicular and penile cancer. Of these men over 47,300 (1 in 8 men of which 1 in 4 will be a black man) will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, over 2,296 will be diagnosed with testicular cancer and 622 will be diagnosed with the rare penile cancer.
UK’s leading charity Orchid (Fighting Male Cancer) works on behalf of anyone affected by or interested in male cancer – prostate, testicular and penile cancer. Let us offer our support as they continue to save men’s lives from male cancer through a range of support services, education and awareness campaigns and a pioneering research programme.
I was privileged to receive an invite to tour the Orchid tissue bank alongside Orchid (Fighting Male Cancer) CEO Rebecca Porta, KML events UK directors Medina and Kenrick Williamson who are partnering with Felicia Hodge as volunteers to host a gala dinner at the Conrad St James Hotel (see flyer below) to raise funds for male cancer research and unpaid carers.
At the centre which is located at the John Vane science centre we were taken around the laboratories and the actual tissue bank vault where the various tissues collected from around the world for research purposes are stored in large freezers by consultants and researchers from the tissue bank who explained to us the very important need for research into Male cancer and the work that they do at the centre.
I hope to see you at the Gala on Saturday 8th October 2016 and for those who cannot attend, you can still support the cause by donating at www.thecrowdfindingcentre.com
